Shane Black's upcoming Predator film officially titled "The Predator" is not like other Predator films according to 20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider who touched briefly on the fourth Predator venture while conducting an interview with Variety. During the conversation Snider addressed The Predator while discussing franchise-building brands currently in the works at Fox; suggesting Fox likely have plans to expand the Predator film franchise into a more marketable and profitable brand.
Stacey explains that Shane's The Predator did not "read like a Predator film" when she first had a look at the script which was written by both Shane Black and Fred Dekker. She claims the upcoming stand-alone / semi-sequel is unexpected and "utterly fresh":
We’ve got a “Predator” film coming out that is unexpected and utterly fresh. I just imagined that it would take 500 hours to read the script — that it would be interior jungle, exterior more jungle and then fighting happens, but Emma [Watts] went out and recruited Shane Black. From the first page, it didn’t read like a “Predator” film.
Following on, Snider also confirmed that the film will be set in suburbia and will focus on Jacob Tremblay's character and his character's father Quinn McKenna, played by Boyd Holbrook:
It’s set in suburbia. There’s a little boy and his dad at the center of the action.
From what we know so far, the plot will involve the discovery of Predator technology by ex-Marine Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook), who somehow manages to take it back home with him after a deployment tour. From there, his son (Tremblay) somehow manages to decipher the tech due to his unique autism.
The story will also involve Predator defectors who oppose the view of their native alien species; which is to rid Earth of its Human population in preparation for relocation by the Predators themselves. From what we've been told, the Earth heating up (Global warming plug?) has attracted attention by the Yautja/Predators and because the Yautja require very hot climates to survive, they are now eyeing Earth as their next settlement. The defectors aid Humanity in combating the "evil" Predators.
In addition to all of the above, we also know that at some point a terrible truth is realized and a monstrous, hybridized Predator monstrosity is unveiled and unleashed.
A release date for the first The Predator movie trailer has not yet been set, but the film will arrive in theaters on August 3rd, 2018. As new details arrive, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
